Bob Williams – Roger McGough and the Liverpool Poets
April 8 at 7:30 pm£3 – £4
Bob will be known to a number of you as an active member of the Arts Association, having served on the Committee as the ‘member without a portfolio’ (curating the Jeanne Walpole Memorial Retrospective Exhibition, in the town, in 2012) and he has for some years been a member of the busy Outings Committee, offering a wide variety of coach based visits to venues of cultural interest.
Bob was a former Deputy Headmaster and Head of Art Department, but with pre-teaching experience working for a small Commercial Art Studio in Central London, servicing the needs of some of the top Advertising Agencies. His eclectic interest in the arts extends to a love of poetry. Thus this evening’s discourse will take a look at the work and influence of the Liverpool Poets who first made quite an impact back in the 1960s and, in particular, Bob’s personal favourite, Roger McGough. All the Liverpool poets were sharp observers of life on Merseyside with McGough, in particular, invariably finding strands of often under-stated humour while getting up close to the tough and under-privileged lives of its citizens.
